PAULISTA’S SEVENS CHAMPIONSHIP – VINHEDO STAGE

The Women’s tournament had matches between new squads and the already tradional rugby clubs, but the stage’s final match was the anticipated clash between SPAC and BAND. SPAC stepped into the turf with a mixed team, with veteran players supporting the new-comers from outside the four lines. BAND, on the other hand, even with many injured players, came with its full solid squad.

BAND was in control for the best part of the match and very offensive, but SPAC managed to maintain the score tied in the first half. The second half saw SPAC’s squad very tired, and unable to hold BAND’s pressure: the first try came from Ju (Xoxinha), followed by the second from Bia, rounding up the score to 10x0 and crowning BAND this stage’s champions.

Tornado’s girls once again took the third spot, showing their constant improvement and positioning the team as a new promise in the Women’s scene. In the Jacareí squad, the highlight was the presence of mother and daughter playing side bu side, with two generations contributing for Women’s rugby growth in Brazil.

The young EACH squad, in their first tournament outside the college circuit, had a solid run. Coached by BAND’s Sté, the team had a balanced defense and promising players.

At the Men’s tournament, Pausteur took home the gold beating Ilha Bela, followed by Rio Branco in third. Once again, BAND was bravely represented by the M19 boys, placing in the second to last spot, but showing a lot of heart, even winning a match with only 5 players.
